A Little Girl With Big Ideas and A Christmas Gift Of Love

Sewing Project

Hi Sewing Friends:

This is my true Christmas story this year.  It touched my heart.  I hope it touches you, too.

A sewing friend of mine came to visit today.  She brought her five year old granddaughter, Allyson, with her.

I gave the little girl some old buttons to play with while my friend and I chatted about some sewing patterns.

In a short while, Allyson asked if I had a “snowball” and some string or ribbon and some glue.  We don’t have snowballs in Florida.  She meant a styrofoam ball.

Well, I did have a large styrofoam ball in my Christmas things.  Allyson was so excited as we gathered everything.  She went off to my sewing workshop with all of her treasures and said she was making her grandmother a special present and we couldn’t look.

She did make her grandmother a very special present, indeed!  She glued bits of ribbon, string and buttons all over that ball.  She said she got the idea from a Christmas Tree ornament in “Cracker Barrel” restaurant.  Her grandmother had taken her there for lunch.

Allyson was so proud of herself as she presented it to her grandmother.  She said, “Merry Christmas Nana!  I made this for you with love just like you make me things with love, too!  Of course, Mrs. Lewis helped cause she gave me the stuff, but I made it all by myself! Now, you can hang it on your Christmas Tree and remember me all day long.”

Then, Allyson ran out to play.  Soon, she popped her head back in the door and said, “Do you think I could make some more and sell them?”

Allyson’s grandmother and I are very sure that no one will ever have to worry about Allyson making her way in the world.  With her loving, giving and resourceful nature, she will do just fine!

As for grandmothers who sew, keep sewing those gifts of love.  They really do mean something to our kids.

Sewing ideas for Christmas gifts are everywhere.  Let the kids help make their own gifts.  There is no better time to share your sewing gifts than at Christmas time.  They will be treasured all year long.

Wishing all of you a Merry Christmas and much Sewing Success in the New Year!
