Sewing 

Hi Sewing Friends:

Sewing is coming back in style.  More and more younger people are thinking that sewing your own clothes is now “cool”.

Of course, the TV reality shows featuring home dec “design it yourself” and high fashion design shows like “Project Runway” have a lot to do with it.   But, hey, whatever it takes, I am happy to hear it. 

Big name magazines are writing articles about this renewed interest in sewing.

Can you believe that “Sewing Salons” are popping up around the country?
Sewing Clubs have been in existence for a long time, but now they are trying to make them look more up-to-date and not just for the older “Sewing Circle” crowd.

The sewing salons offer sewing classes and a place to meet and sew and express your creativity even if you don’t have your own sewing machine.  This really isn’t a new idea, but the younger people think it is. 

Let’s help the younger ones get a good start by sharing what we know.  Any of you who have good sewing tips or even questions that need answers, please post them here.  We will answer all we can. 

Time Magazine did an article about sewing in their November 27, 2006 issue.  It’s called:  “Circling Back To Sewing” by Anita Hamilton.  You will want to read it.

Do your part to promote sewing blogs and forums to anyone with an interest in sewing so they can find encouragement and information to help keep the art of sewing alive for future generations.

My grandchildren encouraged me to write about sewing because of their interest in it.  I have a granddaughter in college whose work study program involves sewing for the theater group at her school.  She is actually earning money doing something we used to do together for fun.

I encourage you to share your love of sewing with those who really are eager to learn.  It is a most rewarding gift to someone and who knows where it will lead.
