How To Sew A Jeans Skirt That Fits

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Hi Sewing Friends:

Jeans skirts have been a fashion staple for a long time now.  Kids love them and adults of all ages wear them, too.  You can have your own Jeans skirt that fits you and has all the design features that you want when you sew.

You’ll find a lot of ideas on how to recycle old jeans into skirts of all kinds, but sometimes you just want to make one from scratch.  Here is a question I answered this week.

Save this post.  Not only do I cover Jeans skirts, but you will learn how to create an A-line skirt, too.

What Are You Doing To Improve Your Image This Year?

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

Hi Sewing Friends:

Did you make a New Year’s resolution to go on a diet and get more exercise.  It seems so many of us do that.  I am not really good with the diet and exercise thing.  I do try to eat healthy, etc., but I just can’t seem to get out to walk on a regular basis.  I do it in spurts!

Here is what I decided to do to give myself a little more incentive to look better and improve my image this year.

I am determined to weed out my wardrobe.  Here is my plan:

Get rid of the clothes that:

  • look worn and tired  (lots of those)
  • colors that make me look washed out (hmmm, some of those, too)
  • clothes that simply don’t look good on me  (mostly gifts from family members - Shhh! Don’t tell them!)
  • things that are out of fashion  (I tend to hold on to “old favorites”)
  • anything that doesn’t feel good on me  (too tight - too scratchy)
  • and anything that doesn’t fit properly  (ooops! It fit a long time ago!)

It will be interesting to see what is left.  My guess is that it will be only a few basic classic items.

I usually organize my closet by hanging all skirts together, then pants, long sleeve tops, sweaters, short sleeve tops, jackets, dresses, and dressy clothes.  I keep coats in a separate closet.

I am thinking maybe I need to organize by outfits of things that go together to see what pieces I am missing and what doesn’t go with anything else.  I’ll pretend I am going on a long vacation.  If those odd separates don’t work together with anything, out they go to a charitable organization unless, of course, I have a piece of fabric in my stash that might work with it.  And then, that goes in my next sewing project pile.

I will make a list of what pieces I need  - like a new pair of navy pants; check my fabric stash for navy fabric; if it’s there, it goes to the top of my sewing projects; if the fabric isn’t there, I will put it on my shopping list.

Classic pants and skirts in basic colors are my favorite items.  Add a classic shirt and shell and go anywhere.  Accessories, jewelry and scarves pull it all together and add the finishing touch.

What are you doing to improve your image this year?

Share your ideas with us.

To Your Sewing Success,

Marian
