Sewing Tip - How To Sew Better Looking Buttonholes
Sewing Tip
Sewing Friends:
Here is a sewing tip to help you sew better looking buttonholes on your sewing machine.
Did you ever consider buttonholes to be like an embroidery sewing project?
Think about it! You use embroidery thread to make satin stitches when sewing embroidery projects. Isn’t a buttonhole made up of lines of satin stitches like you use for some of your embroidery stitching?  Why not use the same thread to make good looking buttonholes?ÂÂ
Try using decorative thread such as Swiss Mettler 30 weight, Art 259, cotton silk-finish embroidery thread on the top of your sewing machine. This thread is the one with orange printing on the spool. The heavier thread fills in the buttonhole stitches better than normal sewing thread and produces good looking buttonholes.
If you are using embroidery thread, don’t forget to use an embroidery needle on your sewing machine. They have a larger eye to accommodate the heavier thread and are made to help reduce frayed threads and skipped stitches. The Schmetz embroidery needles have a red stripe to help identify them more easily.
Try it! Sew buttonholes with an embroidery needle and thread for better looking buttonholes.
It just makes sense!
