Sewing Friends:
There are so many choices to make in sewing. You can’t possibly have all the knowledge you need stored in your head.
It’s wonderful that many talented people have shared sewing information and made it easily available to so many more people through the internet. We just have to find it. As people share resources with me, I will pass them on to you.
Twin needle sewing is one of my very favorite sewing techniques that I use on both knits and woven fabrics. Learn more about it and try it. It really is easy when you know and apply a few tips to achieve greater sewing success.

Julie Culshaw of Timmel Fabrics offers some good information about sewing with twin needles.
In the June/July 2003 issue of Threads Magazine (#107), Carol Laflin Ahles outlined the basics of using a twin needle to create texture and surface design on fabric.  She also compiled a chart to help you choose the appropriate needle, presser foot, and machine settings to achieve a variety of effects, from tucks to topstitching to shadow embroidery.
Carol said, and I agree, that once you give these techniques a try, you’ll be amazed at what you can do with something as simple as a twin needle — and delighted with this sewing-machine-based approach to embellishment.
Carol’s Twin Needle Reference Chart is a handy aid to help you make twin needle sewing decisions. Print it out and keep it in your sewing notebook.ÂÂ
Then, try a twin needle sewing technique on your next sewing project.
It just makes sense!
To Your Sewing Success,
Marian
